Micro Engineering
MicroBridge is an open access service for industry and offers a comprehensive range of micro and nano structing and micro machining capability for non-silicon materials. This includes micro and nano machining and micro fabrication and replication of structures from a few tens of nano metres to 1mm. MicroBridge bridges the gap between conventional precison micro machining and the lithographic/direct write semiconductor patterning technologies for a wide range of different materials – from hard metals to softer polymers and for difficult to machine ceramics and glass. A range of process technologies are being offered, including picosecond laser ablation, micro eletrodischarge machining, focused ion-beam milling, nano imprinting and polymer replication processes.

Nano and micro engineering offers a whole new range of product functionality that is not possible in larger scale and opens up a whole new range of potential new products in a wide range of market sectors. Sensors medical and dental devices, health care and pharmarceuticals, automotive and aerospace are a few sectors that are currently exploiting opportunities offered by micro and nano engineering
