About us

More than fifty years ago, MELAG began in Berlin to specialise in the manufacture of sterilization equipment.
As a result of high-level quality consciousness, reliability, and innovative eagerness – together with the highest in safety objectives – the family-run enterprise MELAG has succeeded in becoming one of the leading producers of sterilization equipment. Verification of this success has been the sale of more than 335,000 MELAG systems around the world.

Decades of experience, modern computer-aided production technology, the employment of highest-quality materials, and an experienced and reliable staff – all these have made MELAG equipment renowned for its quality and convenience of operation.

MELAG corporate policy includes systematic specialisation in a limited line of products.
In this way it is possible for MELAG as a successful medium-size business to employ its highly specialised development team to effectively satisfy market demands and to further develop the MELAG line of products on a leading international level.
The entire MELAG staff is proud to have made an important contribution to the protection of the health of patients and of medical staff, with the equipment and accessories it produces for reliable sterilization and safe storage of sterilized articles.

Cliniklav 02.11.2007

The big one from MELAG
a powerful piece of technology

For highest quality in surgical applications
The Cliniklav 25 was especially developed for specialized surgeons, other specialists, shared surgeries, outpatient clinics and special wards in hospitals, e.g. in the outpatient field. The Cliniklav 25 meets all requirements of a “small” large sterilizer.
The energy and water consumption were significantly lowered and the speed further enhanced by systematic development work. In the Quick-Program, small quantities of unwrapped instruments are sterilized in only 14 minutes with a fractionated pre-vacuum. Also for loads of up to 15 kg instruments or 7 kg textiles and also when they are wrapped, the Cliniklav 25 is sufficiently productive to ensure smooth clinic procedure.

Reliable
It becomes really clear in a surgery how important a high-quality autoclave is when you don’t have one: i.e., when you have to postpone an operation because sterile instruments, towels, aprons, etc., are just not ready. Several thousand hours of endurance tests in labs and in numerous surgeries and clinics offer you the guarantee of maximum quality and functional reliability. Close collaboration over many years with internationally acknowledged subcontractors, leading in their specialized fields, is an essential part of our successful corporate philosophy.

Quick
From the very beginning of development of the Cliniklav 25, Melag has placed great emphasis not only on economy of power and water consumption, but also on short program run times. In addition to reduction of costs per sterilization cycle, these savings also mean that you need fewer instruments in your surgery or clinic. In other words, instruments and textiles are available again very quickly: in the Universal Program up to 15 kg of instruments are ready for use again after no more than 56 minutes (including effective vacuum drying). With the Quick Program, after only 14 min.

User friendliness
Program diversity must never become an end in itself. A great number of control elements with confusing menu selections may be optically impressive: but they can prove very expensive when they lead to the wrong program selection, aborted programs, and restarts. This all costs time and money. This is why we have limited the control elements of the Cliniklav 25 to only a few buttons that allow very user-friendly selection of the most important functions. The button “Programm” selects the four sterilization programs, the Bowie & Dick test, and the vacuum test. The button “Start/Stop” starts these functions. MELAG can add individual programs to the Cliniklav 25, according to the user’s needs.

Euroklav 23V-S 02.11.2007

With single pre-vacuum
Chamber depth: 45 cm, 22 litres

With the Euroklav - autoclaves, MELAG offers an even more cost-effective alternative to the Vacuklav - series. The Euroklav - autoclaves fulfil the strict stipulations of the “Class S” according the European Standard EN 13060, and are designed for applications in doctors‘ practices in which the instruments used and the types of instrument wrapping do not require “Class B” autoclaves. The MELAG Euroklav - autoclaves are high-tech autoclaves which have been examined by an accredited testing laboratory. The Euroklav 23V-S is thereby suited for the sterilization of wrapped, simple hollow instruments of the type “Hollow B” (according to the definition in EN 13060) and small quantities of textiles, also wrapped.

The Euroklav 23V-S has an effective vacuum pump which creates a vacuum at the beginning of the sterilization process in order to assist the air evacuation from the chamber and to create a post-vacuum for optimal drying results especially for wrapped goods.

The Euroklav 23V-S is designed as a “stand alone” device and only needs a power supply. Without any further installation the autoclave can be operated by its built-in water storage tank for demineralized water and for used water separately. For a more pleasant operating the Euroklav 23V-S can be connected with the water treatment system MELAdem 40 or MELAdem 47 to a water source and drain. The supply of demineralized water and the drain of the used water will happen automatically.

The required documentation of the sterilization cycles is carried out over the built-in interface connection to the report printer MELAprint 42 or to the connection to the practice PC. The documentation software MELAwin developed by MELAG is required for this.

Additionally, it is possible to connect the MELAflash CF Card Printer used to save the sterilization records on the MELAflash CF Card. The sterilization records can be read out on every PC with the MELAflash CF-Card Reader.

The documentation of the release is carried out with the MELAdoc system, consisting of the documentation pages and the label printer for sterilization packaging.

For the optimal employment of the chamber, you can select from three mountings: the mounting C for 6 trays or for 3 standard tray cassettes is standard. Likewise different sterilization containers are available.

MELAtronic EN 02.11.2007

With fractionated gravity system

MELAtronic 15EN, 7 litres

MELAtronic 17EN, 11 litres

MELAtronic 23EN, 19 litres

The newly developed autoclaves MELAtronic 15EN, MELAtronic 17EN and MELAtronic 23EN are conceived for medical practices where bulk unwrapped instruments or simple hollow instruments of the “Hollow B” type (see description in EN 13060) or also small quantities of unwrapped textiles are sterilized. They are the successors of the autoclaves Type 15, Type 17 and Type 23 that have been manufactured thousand-fold and which have performed their job in the practice often for decades in proven quality and reliability.

The MELAtronic EN autoclaves work with the fractionated gravity system and offer both sterilization programs of the “Class N” as well as the “Class S”. Furnished with a high grade electronic microprocessor control as well as pressure and temperature sensors for recording and monitoring the sterilization parameters pressure, temperature and time, and a display to show all important information, the autoclaves MELAtronic 15EN, MELAtronic 17EN and MELAtronic 23EN satisfy the strict requirements of the European standard EN 13060.

The feed water is in the built-in water storage tank and is employed in the cycle. The conversion to the especially gentle one-way water system is easily possible with the optionally available condensate container. The water quality and the dosing of the feed water required for the sterilization is verified fully automatically.

The documentation of the sterilization cycles required by law is carried out over the built-in serial interface connection (RS 232) to the protocol printer MELAprint 42 or to the connection to the practice PC. The documentation software MELAwin developed by MELAG is required for this.

Additionally, it is possible to connect the MELAflash CF Card Printer used to save the sterilization records on the MELAflash CF Card. The sterilization records can be read out on every PC with the MELAflash CF-Card reader.

Vacuklav 40-B 02.11.2007

Tap-water connection necessary
Chamber depth: 35 cm, 18 litres

Because unwrapped handpieces can already be removed from the autoclave after 10 minutes in the quick program with fractionated pre-vacuum, including drying time, wrapped handpieces already after 17 minutes

Documentation alternatively with MELAflash CF Card, directly into the network or with protocol printer MELAprint 42.

The extra large graphic display makes operating a pleasure and gives additional tips and information.

The Vacuklav 40-B works with a fractionated pre-vacuum and satisfies the requirements to “Class B”- autoclaves of the European standard EN 13060. The deep vacuum is created by a very high performance electrical vacuum pump. The deep post-vacuum ensures optimal drying of wrapped materials and large quantities of wrapped textiles and porous goods as well. The installation of the Vacuklav 40-B is therefore as simple as that of a washing machine.

The Vacuklav 40-B can be connected with the water treatment system MELAdem 40 or MELAdem 47 to a water source and drain. A part of the tap water will be demineralized and used for the steam generation, and another part is used to cool the vacuum pump.

Vacuquick 02.11.2007

Vacuquick 13-B
No tap-water connection necessary,
Chamber: ø 18 x 23 cm, volume: 5.7 litres

Vacuquick 14-B
Tap-water connection necessary,
Chamber: ø 18 x 23 cm, volume: 5.7 litres

Previously, the sterilization of handpieces between two patients was only required for invasive work. Several hygienic experts recommend the hygienic preparation of handpieces after every patient. And in fact also in principle a disinfection of the inner parts is required; sterilization is necessary for invasively used handpieces.

For this demand an autoclave with very short operation time is required. The quick program for unwrapped material to be sterilized takes only 7 minutes for the Vacuquick! And that is achieved even though a fractionated vacuum is used for sterilization! The Vacuquick autoclaves combine in one device the advantages of a quick autoclave with those of a compact practice autoclave with very modest space requirements for the installation.

The Vacuquick autoclaves are large enough that when loading 4 trays in continuous operation in an eight hour day in the practice, more than 70 kg of wrapped instruments can be sterilized. The Vacuquick autoclaves are operated “intuitively”: All information about the autoclave as well as the program sequence is displayed on the graphic display (8 cm width x 6 cm height). This avoids operating errors.

Vacuquick®13-B is a “stand alone” autoclave with integrated water storage tank and patented air cooling system, and is ready for operation without further Installation work. The Vacuquick 13-B is delivered with an external condensate container for the used water.

Vacuquick®14-B requires a tap-water connection with the advantage that if it is connected to the water treatment system MELAdem 40, it is automatically supplied with high quality demineralized water. If many sterilization cycles are carried out daily, the MELAdem 47 is recommended. The tap-water connection in conjunction with the high-performance vacuum pump has only a very low heat emission.

Vacuquick 13-B and Vacuquick 14-B are “Class B” autoclaves and thereby comply with the highest requirements of the European Standard EN 13060.
Whether sterilizing wrapped instruments or unwrapped material, sterilization is always conducted with the greatest safety. Thanks to its compact exterior dimensions, the Vacuquick autoclaves of the Premium-Class also fit into the openings of older built-in cupboards, so that a “Class B” autoclave can also be installed in these practices in the same familiar spot.

MELAdem 40 02.11.2007

The reasonably priced ion exchanger

With MELAdem 40 you can produce high-quality demineralized water (aqua dem) for a low price directly in the practice. According to the ion exchange principle, contaminating ions in the tap water (e.g. calcium, magnesium etc.) are removed from the water and replaced by hydrogen and hydroxyl ions. MELAdem 40 then supplies high-quality demineralized water. MELAdem 40 can even be directly connected to the MELAG Europe autoclaves Vacuklav, Vacuquick and Euroklav and then automatically provide sufficient high-quality demineralized water for every sterilization.

The autoclaves Vacuklav and Euroklav are prepared ex factory with the mounting for fastening the MELAdem 40 to the sterilizer housing. Respective mountings can be delivered to attach to the autoclaves Vacuquick or to the room wall.

In the case of the MELAtronic EN autoclaves, the built-in water storage tank of these autoclaves can be directly filled with the optionally available spray pistol MELAjet.

The conductivity sensor built into the MELAG autoclaves Vacuklav, Vacuquick, Euroklav and MELAtronic EN automatically checks the water quality of the aqua dem which has been produced and supplied.
If an autoclave does not have an automatic conductivity sensor for checking the water quality, MELAG offers the quality control monitor. The ion exchange resin used to treat the water is then exchanged as soon as the water quality no longer meets the requirements.

MELAdem 55 02.11.2007

reverse osmosis system
for large demand of aqua dem

MELAdem 55 is designed for the direct connection to the Cliniklav 25, or for doctors’ practices with large demand for high-quality demineralized water. Reversal of the physical principle of osmosis – in which pure water from a higher-concentration solution diffuses through a semi-permeable membrane – is an extraordinarily environmentally friendly form of water treatment.

The MELAdem 55, however, produces more water than the MELAdem 47: seven (7) litres of demineralized water per hour. The water storage tank, delivered with the Cliniklav 25 has a volume of twenty litres.

MELAdem47 02.11.2007

The environment-friendly
reverse osmosis system

Due to increasing requirements for hygienic processing of the instruments employed in the practice, a more frequent sterilizing of the instruments might be required. The increasing demand for high-quality demineralized water to operate the autoclaves is made sufficiently and inexpensively available by the MELAdem 47.
Reversal of the physical principle of osmosis – in which pure water from a higher-concentration solution diffuses through a semi-permeable membrane – is an extraordinarily environmentally friendly form of water treatment.

MELAdem 47 can be directly connected to the MELAG Europa autoclaves Vacuklav, Vacuquick and Euroklav to which it automatically feeds demineralized water for each sterilization cycle. The water tap supplied with the system also provides demineralised water for other applications, or for filling the water storage tanks of conventional autoclaves.

The MELAdem 47 is designed for normal autoclaves and for average consumption of demineralized water in routine doctors’ practices. It produces approx. three (3) litres of demineralized water per hour. The water-storage tank supplied has a volume of 4 … 5 litres of demineralized water.
For greater demand, we recommend the MELAdem 55

MELAdest 65 02.11.2007

MELAdest 65 enables the most economical cost-saving production of high-quality distilled water for autoclaves and for all other applications in doctors’ practices. Water produced with MELAdest 65 is collected in the water storage tank and can be manually filled into the water storage tank of the autoclave.

With a power rating of 800 W, the production of one litre of high-quality distilled water costs only approx. €. 0,20 per litre: i.e., only the cost of power and tap water.

MELAtest 60 02.11.2007

Conductivity sensor

The quality of water for the autoclaves fluctuates highly depending on the source. In order to verify water quality at any time in the practice, MELAG offers the conductivity sensor MELAtest 60.

MELAG offers the conductivity meter MELAtest 60 for testing at all times of the quality of water used in doctors’ practices for instrument preparation and sterilization. The conductivity meter is simply turned on and held down into the water to be tested. The display will show the conductivity reading. Experience has shown that constituents dissolved in water can be dangerous to autoclaves and instruments with conductivity values of 30 µS/cm (micro-Siemens per centimetre) and more. The European standard EN 13060 recommends a conductivity for aqua dem of not more than 15µS/cm.

For the regular calibration of the MELAtest 60, we recommend the calibration liquid with MELAG article No.: 55845.

A MELAtest 60 is not required for the MELAG autoclaves of the series Vacuklav, Vacuquick, Euroklav and MELAtronic EN because the verification of the water quality of the feed water is carried out automatically by the conductivity sensor built into these autoclaves.
