Security and quality in the health service - an important condition for it is the identification of the patients free of doubts. Also with patients, who cannot at all or only to a limited extent express themselves to their person during their treatment phase, the name and origin have to be determined quickly and safely. Because a rapid identification secures the patients in case immediate assistance is required or a fast return to the treatment place is desired .
With the “Armilla” identification wristband Mediaform now offers a well thought-out marking system as demanded by many service and quality-oriented hospitals and patient agencies. The “Armilla” system provides a maximum security for patients and hospitals, and in view of the traceability as well as of the documentation it fulfills all conditions of the quality management.

The wristband consists of a durable polyester foil, whose surface is marked directly with laser printers. At the earliest possible time all relevant patient data can be captured and, in connection with the central data processing system of the hospital, transmitted directly to the wristband. In addition to the printed text data further important information, such as the blood group or references to special risk factors, can as well be transmitted to the wristband in coded form as bar code (pdf 417).

Where several thousand urgent documents need to be analyzed and transferred daily, collecting examination orders efficiently and reliably is top priority. Manually entering data costs a great deal of time and money. On the other hand, automatically collecting, recognizing and preparing documents with ScanTools is possible in a very short amount of time. ScanTools reduces the work and cost associated with data collection through optimized processes and high-quality recognition of type (OCR), markings and check fields (OMR), block letters (ICR) as well as one- and two-dimensional barcodes (PDF417, Datamatrix).

Collecting and Analyzing Documents in 4 Steps:

Documents are collected using high-performance scanners or by importing images from external sources, including barcode reading.
Diverse documents are identified (classification) and OCR, OMR and ICR recognition controls the interpretation of the contents according to the respective document templates.
Pre-set automatic plausibility and norm checks are carried out on the recognized contents. The interpreted data is visually proofread and, if necessary, corrected by the user.
The data is prepared for various target systems (LDT, HL7, SPSS, DAT, etc.), as is the digital image of the document for export to the archive system.

ArchiMedis 8.0 can be used as a highly functional, stand-alone document management system. Together with form scanners, any documents can be scanned, indexed and saved in a revision-proof manner.

In addition to automatic indexing using the processing number (barcode), documents can also be stored in the file system using keywords, which are entered manually. Both physical documents and digital forms (such as diagnoses, direct patient billing forms and Word documents etc.) from print files (PCL files) can be converted into Tiff format and saved as an image in the process. Documents are automatically indexed and saved in the archive database using the data interpretation.

Using the Document Generator you can design your own form templates by using the principles of machine readability that are built into the software.

The Document Generator includes a standardized interface, allowing disparate files to be imported from data processing systems. These include, for example, importing procedure texts and notes from the laboratory or complete addresses (ordering party data). Using this data as a basis, as well as the convenient design tools, appealing customized and machine-readable forms can be designed. The resulting forms can be printed with a laser or inkjet printer. The Mediaform archive system

This module from the successful Mediaform product line, together with ScanTools 7.0, ideally integrates automatic data collection and the archiving of incoming order documents.
ArchiMedis can, however, also be operated as a stand-alone document management system. In conjunction with the Scan Module, all types of documents can be scanned, indexed and electronically archived.

Apart from automatically indexing files using order barcodes, the Module allows you to manually assign keywords to documents. Scanned physical documents, as well as printed forms (reports, private liquidations, word documents etc.) in PCL format, can be converted to Tiff.

The document image is then saved under an order number or index files in ArchiMedis. Consequently, all documents from the Input, as well as the Output of the casework are available in the network.

File storage with ArchiMedis
Archived files can be stored on CD-ROM, DVD or other storage mediums. A viewer is included in the file storage for data display. ArchiMedis and ScanTools run under Windows NT 4.0 / 2000 Professional / XP.

Using the Document Generator you can design your own form templates by using the principles of machine readability that are built into the software.

The Document Generator includes a standardized interface, allowing disparate files to be imported from data processing systems. These include, for example, importing procedure texts and notes from the laboratory or complete addresses (ordering party data). Using this data as a basis, as well as the convenient design tools, appealing customized and machine-readable forms can be designed. The resulting forms can be printed with a laser or inkjet printer. Give the created postscript file to a professional print shop and thereby save the time and money of print pre-production.

The Mediaform archive system

This module from the successful Mediaform product line, together with ScanTools 7.0, ideally integrates automatic data collection and the archiving of incoming order documents.
ArchiMedis can, however, also be operated as a stand-alone document management system. In conjunction with the Scan Module, all types of documents can be scanned, indexed and electronically archived.

Apart from automatically indexing files using order barcodes, the Module allows you to manually assign keywords to documents. Scanned physical documents, as well as printed forms (reports, private liquidations, word documents etc.) in PCL format, can be converted to Tiff.

The document image is then saved under an order number or index files in ArchiMedis. Consequently, all documents from the Input, as well as the Output of the casework are available in the network.

File storage with ArchiMedis
Archived files can be stored on CD-ROM, DVD or other storage mediums. A viewer is included in the file storage for data display. ArchiMedis and ScanTools run under Windows NT 4.0 / 2000 Professional / XP.

The central task of ScanTools OCR software is providing an intelligent tool for collecting, evaluating and saving an almost unlimited number of documents, independently of whether they arrive in paper or electronic form.

ScanTools OCR provides the user with maximum flexibility in collecting documents of all kinds. With the aid of high-performance scanners, digitalized documents can be analyzed and validated using effective ICR / OCR / OMR / Barcode interpretation. As the files are transferred to the laboratory system, the digital image and recognition files are simultaneously also transferred to the ArchiMedis System.

The distance between theory and practice is sometimes great. But not with ArchiMedis. Using the following example, we want to show how document collection with ArchiMedis would look in a midsize laboratory. Even a midsized laboratory easily receives up to 250 000 documents a year.
This means that, on an average workday, the example laboratory can count on up to 1000 incoming orders in varying formats. Most of these orders arrive at Entry as paper documents. The scanning workstation, configured as a PC client connected to a high-performance scanner, is also set up there.

Automated Document Collection in Health Care

Where several thousand urgent documents need to be analyzed and transferred daily, collecting examination orders efficiently and reliably is top priority. Manually entering data costs a great deal of time and money. On the other hand, automatically collecting, recognizing and preparing documents with ScanTools is possible in a very short amount of time. ScanTools reduces the work and cost associated with data collection through optimized processes and high-quality recognition of type (OCR), markings and check fields (OMR), block letters (ICR) as well as one- and two-dimensional barcodes (PDF417, Datamatrix).

Collecting and Analyzing Documents in 4 Steps:

Documents are collected using high-performance scanners or by importing images from external sources, including barcode reading.
Diverse documents are identified (classification) and OCR, OMR and ICR recognition controls the interpretation of the contents according to the respective document templates.
Pre-set automatic plausibility and norm checks are carried out on the recognized contents. The interpreted data is visually proofread and, if necessary, corrected by the user.
The data is prepared for various target systems (LDT, HL7, SPSS, DAT, etc.), as is the digital image of the document for export to the archive system.
