BCS BIOTECH S.p.A.
BCS BIOTECH S.p.A.(BCS) was founded in 1989 by a group of researchers with more than 20 years of experience in the field of Biotechnology. A modern manufacturing plant covers an area of almost 4000 square meters and are seat of production, research and quality control. Laboratory space is approximately 1300 sqm. Additionally there are 800 sqm of cold storage and stock storage space and another 1600 sqm for services and accessory facilities. The cell culture laboratory is equipped with a P3 Clean Room (level 1000) covering an extra 200 square meters used for the production and development of products that require maximum protection against contaminants. The gene cloning laboratory covers 150 square meters and is used for setting-up positive controls for the quality control of molecular biology technologies and products. BCS is Vision 2000 and ISO 13485 certified and continuously strives to improve the quality of its products and services. The Company designs and produces PCR kits for molecular diagnosis and research in the Biomedical, Food processing, Veterinary and Agrarian sectors. Services include the establishment and cryopreservation of lymphoblastoid cell lines; a DNA and cell respository; quantitative G6PD; testing for high and low risk classes of Human Papilloma virus. Recent investment has expanded the molecular biology Product line to include microchip technology. This innovative technique is highly sensitive and makes it possible to detect multiple pathogens in a single assay. An international sales and distribution network reaches markets worldwide. The establishment of a capillary distribution network, including niche markets, is currently underway.

An outline of the three maìjor business lines is given below:

(1) PCR diagnostics. BCS Diagnostics has developed several PCR diagnostic kits using all the technologies available: traditional (gel), real-time PCR and microtiter plates (MTPs). Recently, BCS has developed an exclusive microchip technology that allows for fast and low cost diagnostics.

(2) External quality control in molecular diagnostics. The company has developed a unique methodology for the assessment, control and certification of quality standards in laboratories, covering both analysis and products.

(3) Biocell service. BCS provides a service for the immortalization of cells to specific customers both in Italy and the US. The service consists of cryopreservation of lymphoblastoid cell lines or buffy coats, maintenance of stocks and expansion of cell lines for molecular analysis.
